The boat is powered by twin 300hp Perkins Sabres, matching the hull's design perfectly.
A central saloon panel lifts to provide access to the engine room, where a 2ft (0.6m) gap between the engines ensures easy maintenance access. Space around the engines is ample, as centrally mounted fuel tanks under the treadplate and forward cabin floor avoid cluttering the outboard areas.
The aft bulkhead houses fuel/water separators, raw-water strainers, vented battery boxes, and protected shaft logs. Ventilation is excellent, with large fans keeping the engine room near ambient temperature even after hours of operation.
Noise insulation is exceptional, using loaded foam and multi-layered panels, resulting in an exceptionally quietest cruising experience . The installation exemplifies top-notch craftsmanship as expected.

Broker's Comments
Boatshed Wales is thrilled to present for sale "Le Grand Valseur," a Dale Nelson 38 Aft Cockpit.
Dale Nelson boats are celebrated for their exceptional build quality and reliability, serving both leisure and commercial sectors. "Le Grand Valseur" exemplifies these qualities, having been utilized for cruising and, more recently, as a coded police launch on the Milford Haven Waterway.
This vessel was YDSA certified and Cat 2 coded to carry up to nine passengers for distances of up to 60 miles offshore. While the coding expired on January 21, 2024, it can be reinstated through a renewal examination.
Originally built in 1997 and commissioned in 1998, the boat underwent a significant refit in 2007. The interior showcases high-quality joinery and fittings, though some areas require attention, including the headlining and minor water ingress in places, as shown in the accompanying photographs.
Powered by twin Perkins Sabre M300TI engines producing a combined 600hp, "Le Grand Valseur" cruises comfortably at 20 knots and reaches top speeds exceeding 30 knots. Modeled on the heavy-weather pilot boat design, its sea-keeping and rough-weather performance are unmatched. These vessels are often sought after by discerning buyers for their combination of exceptional craftsmanship, luxurious comfort, and rugged performance, making them ideal for safe, comfortable cruising.
While "Le Grand Valseur" would benefit from some restoration to return her to peak condition, she remains fundamentally robust and fully functional. With a bit of care, this boat could transform into a highly desirable, top-tier cruising motor launch at a fraction of the cost of a new vessel.
Currently stored ashore for easy inspection, we highly recommend viewing to fully appreciate the quality, durability, and timeless styling of this Dale Nelson 38. As always, we welcome all inquiries and viewing requests.
