Broker's Comments
*** Engineering report available for £100, direct with surveyor ***
This Birchwood TS49 has recently been assessed after an engine inspection. The engines turn over and purr but need a major service.
The owner has done her best to look after them with regular running but has not the strength or ability to get into the engine bay and assess all the components.
Details available to serious enquirers. It is a suitable project boat for people who like big engines. That is why it is being offered at this price - investment is needed.
The saloon is big enough to entertain a dozen guests and the cockpit has a smart cover protecting it. The two large double cabins are more like staterooms really, and a third cabin, with twin beds, provide ample sleeping accommodation. There are three heads - one is used as a storage room. The galley has all mod cons and is positioned conveniently between the helm, saloon and forward cabin. The interior and living space is lovely, in fact transporting the boat to a static berth with no intention of going anywher makes this the equivalent of a three bedroom detached house for less than £60k!
The helm is impressive but some of the navigation equipment, though serviceable, is rather old-fashioned by 2023 standards. The flybridge commands an impressive view and has seating for eight people easily.
Labour saving devices include bow thrusters and an electric windlass. There is a generator as well, but it needs servicing. The current owner has not used the water maker.
A few interior areas could do with a bit of TLC but the general condition seems good for a boat over 30 years old and which has been lived in for the past decade.
If you are looking for an affordable prestige cruiser for coastal, blue-water or river passages then consider this. But sort out the engines first.
And as a liveaboard, a holiday home or a weekend retreat, it feels as spacious as a three bedroom detached house at a fraction of the price. Keep looking after the engines and even as a residence you can minimise engine repairs and help maintain resale value.
