We brokers sometimes get a bit jaded in our views of, shall we call them, elderly yachts. Frequently we encounter damp sagging headlinings, mildewed upholstery, tired woodwork and 'owner improvements' - not to mention mushrooms growing where mushrooms ought not to grow!
Therefore, what a delightful surprise awaited me when I slid open the hatch on this beauty. She is nearly as Westerly must have intended, with a few extra nav aids added for good measure (no GPS in 1980). Owned by an obviously fastidious couple she is a credit to their ownership, and what a lovely sensible yacht the Konsort is? I have always liked the Westerly range and believe that this is the almost perfect family cruiser - spacious, rugged, reliable and well built. Able to take the ground yet capable of serious offshore passages (at least one has been transatlantic), they satisfy 95% of most leisure sailors needs. What she might lack in roller furling head sail gear she more than makes up for in general condition. The only fault that I picked up during the photo shoot was a slack alternator belt, as you'll see if you look closely at our photo!
Don't let her age put you off, she is a beauty!
